Located in Fort Irwin, California, Weed Army Community Hospital is a state-of-the-art facility designed to incorporate solar energy through evidence-based design. In addition, the facility is the world's first carbon neutral hospital and has received LEED® Platinum certification, the highest qualification available for energy and resource efficiency in design and construction.

Acting as the owner's on-site representative, SEA's certified energy manager played a major role in building the building's infrastructure. Working with the design team and early in the planning phase, SEA used its energy modeling tools to create nine key energy conservation measures that reduced overall ASHRAE code energy use by 21.7%. These measures reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 1,403 tons per year below the baseline. In addition, renewable energy systems, including solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays and solar thermal systems, take advantage of the site's solar radiation potential to meet all of the hospital's energy and hot water needs.

More than $2 million in rebates were secured to minimize upfront costs. SEA managed the commissioning of all mechanical and electrical systems to ensure they functioned as designed.
